Service and Mission

LOCAL MISSION :

Wyatt Park Christian Church is engaged with numerous ministries in St. Joseph . For example, we frequently work with Habitat for Humanity to help provide affordable homes for families who could not otherwise afford it. Food donations are collected each week and delivered to The Calvin Center Food Pantry for distribution to families in need.  Volunteer cooks and servers provide meals on a regular basis at The Open Door Food Kitchen, a ministry in downtown St. Joseph providing hot meals each day to people in need. Members of the Spiritual Growth Class and also our Christian Youth Fellowship regularly serve at the YWCA Shelter for abused women and children. We are implementing a mentoring program with Community Action Partnership.

We are also a participating congregation with Faith In Action, a ministry of more than 2 dozen St. Joseph churches to pool volunteer resources and serve in the name of Jesus. A variety of services are provided, and a huge variety of volunteers are needed. If you'd like to help, contact our Faith In Action coordinators, Chuck and Sharon Leonard.

Jacob's Closet

A ministry of love to children in need:

Taking a child, He set him before them, and taking him into His arms, He said to them, "Whoever receives one child like this in My name receives Me, and whoever receives Me does not receive Me, but Him who sent Me." (Mark 9:36-37)

Jacob's Closet is a ministry of Wyatt Park Christian Church that provides new and quality used clothing to children in need. Clothing sizes range from birth through 6th grade and are available at no cost to the family. Each child who visits Jacob's Closet is able to select and try on clothing that has been displayed in an attractive store-front atmosphere. This personal shopping experience is managed by a team of enthusaistic Christ followers who delight in sharing the love of God with each child. Appointments to visit Jacob's Closet may be made by calling the church office at 232-3374.

If you would like to donate items or provide financial assistance to Jacob's Closet, please contact the church office or bring them to the church at 2623 Mitchell Ave. Jacob's Closet coordinator:  Sharon Millard

GLOBAL MISSION:

Puttur,

Members of our India Mission Team recently completed a two week trip to the Good Shepherd Mission in Puttur (June 13-27, 2010). Stories and photos are posted on their blog at http://gsm-wpcc.blogspot.com/

Another trip is planned for January, 2011.

The trips will be similar to the trip in January 2009 and the link below will help you discover more about that trip. The team conducted immunization camps in rural villages, worshiped at village churches supported by Good Shepherd, and worked with the orphans who live at Good Shepherd.

Use this link to watch a video that the team put together following the trip:

Photos from that trip are posted on our website. Look under "Service" on the left menu and click on one of the tabs for India trips. Read below for general information about our partnership with the Good Shepherd Mission in Puttur.

Wyatt Park Christian Church is partnered with the Good Shepherd Mission in Puttur, a town of 75,000 in southeastern India. The mission provides housing for elderly people and more than 200 orphans. Good Shepherd also operates a general-care hospital, eye hospital, and dental clinic, providing medical care at a reasonable cost for those who can pay, and at no cost for those who are unable to pay. Good Shepherd seeks to serve the poorest of the poor, and everything is done in the name of Jesus Christ. Good Shepherd also began and financially supports ten village churches.
Wyatt Park sends $1100 each month to help support Good Shepherd's work, and teams from St. Joseph visit Good Shepherd regularly. Good Shepherd partnership coordinators: Dean & Jeanette Mausolf.

Jamaica Mission Team recently served for a week (Jan 30-Feb 8) in southwestern Jamaica.

The team provided medical and dental care for people who do not have access to it otherwise. They worked in the communities of Cambridge and Holland in the Black River area of southwestern Jamaica.

Wyatt Park Christian Church works with two congregations near the southwestern coast of Jamaica, sending medical teams and other support to aid people in that impoverished area. We are partnered with two local congregations in Cambridge and
Holland in the Black River area of southwestern Jamaica.
