The Buchanan Highlanders formed in 1991 and has been sponsored by Wyatt Park Christian Church for more than ten years. The band performs at church and civic gatherings of all kinds: they play at parades all around northwest Missouri, pipe in the colors at various civic programs such as the Memorial Day and Veterans' Day ceremonies at civic center park, perform at church services, and civic clubs. They've piped in the cadets at the Law Enforcement Academy graduation at Missouri Western State University every six months for a number of years. Individually, Highlanders perform at St. Joseph schools, veterans and nursing homes throughout northwest Missouri, and play for numerous weddings and funerals.
Bagpipe students receive instruction on Tuesday nights at the church when band members meet for rehearsal (every Tuesday night but the first Tuesday of the month).
